Bifocal lenses are often recommended around age 40 when presbyopia makes near tasks harder to see clearly. Unlike single-vision reading glasses, bifocals combine distance and near correction in a single lens. They differ from multifocals by serving only two distances, with the classic version showing a visible dividing line between near and far. A second option offers a more aesthetic, blended design with the line nearly invisible. Both provide convenience by allowing clear vision for near and far without switching glasses, making them a practical choice for everyday use.

Bifocal Lenses

Has your Optometrist suggested Bifocal lenses for you? We’re here to assist!

As you age and approach the age of 40, your eye muscles tend to weaken and it becomes very difficult to focus on near tasks with clarity. This phenemonon is called Presbyopia and one needs a reading aid to assist in seeing objects at near clearly.

The treatment includes one of 3 options: Single vision reading glasses, bifocals or multifocals!

Many are familiar with reading glasses but often get confused between bifocals and multifocals

Bi-focals was introduced in the late 1700s and served the purpose of using one pair of glasses to see far as well as to read or see near objects clearly. It’s easy to get confused between bi-focals and multi-focals. The main difference is that bi-focals has a distinctive line on the lens which separates the distance lens from the near lens. It only serves for two distances i.e. far and near.

At The Optik Studio, we offer two options of Bifocals.

The first is the most common: a distinctive line is seen on the lenses, the distance and near powers are distinctivly seperated by this line.

The second option serves as a more aesthetically pleasing lens where the line is close to invisible! The lens is precisely blended together to almost invisible!

The second option would be a more useful option for a more aesthetically pleasing look and to avoid adjustment symptoms that one may experience with Multifocals.

Both lenses serves the purpose of assisting one to see far and near all in one pair!
